Mitsumasa Yasuno is a Japanese painter, book designer, and picture book author. Born in Shimane Prefecture in 1926, he moved to Tokyo as an art teacher in 1949 and taught at elementary schools such as Mitaka City Daigo Elementary School and Myojo Gakuen. In 1968, he published his first picture book, ``Fushiginae,'' which gained worldwide acclaim. After that, he published a number of works, and was also in charge of the cover art for Ryotaro Shiba's travel collection ``Kaido wo Yuku'' and the symbol of the Osaka Prefectural Museum of International Children's Literature. He also created a lot of advertising art for the theater company Komatsuza, which is headed by playwright Hisashi Inoue.
