Kazuo Murakami is a Japanese molecular biologist. Professor emeritus at the University of Tsukuba. After graduating from Kyoto University's Faculty of Agriculture, he conducted research at Oregon Medical College and Vanderbilt University, and succeeded in decoding the human renin gene. Afterwards, he returned to the University of Tsukuba and served as the director of the Gene Experiment Center and the Center for Advanced Interdisciplinary Research. He also served as executive director of the International Foundation for the Promotion of Science and director of the Institute for Biotechnology.
