**"Contributing to the history of Japanese tea ceremony"**
Isao Kumakura (born 1943) is a Japanese historian (Japanese cultural history and tea ceremony history). He also conducts research on the history of Japanese culinary culture, Soetsu Yanagi and the Mingei movement. His degree is Doctor of Letters. He has served as professor emeritus at the National Museum of Ethnology, professor emeritus at the Graduate University for Advanced Studies, director of MIHO MUSEUM, and won the Chunichi Cultural Award in 2014.
He is an expert on the history of the tea ceremony and Kan'ei culture, and has written many books on the history of Japanese culinary culture and the Mingei movement. After working at Kyoto University's Institute for Humanities and the University of Tsukuba, and serving as a professor at the National Museum of Ethnology, he became professor emeritus and director of the Hayashibara Museum of Art. Currently, he is the director of MIHO MUSEUM and professor emeritus at Shizuoka University of Arts and Culture.
