中学時代、創作
1926年3月20日、半田第二尋常小学校卒業。成績優秀で「知多郡長賞」「第一等賞」を授与される。卒業式では卒業生代表として答辞を呼んだが、この答辞は教師の手を入れず、南吉一人で書き上げたものだった。
