加藤周一（1919年 - 2008年）は、日本の評論家、小説家。医学博士であり、内科学と血液学が専門だった。上智大学教授やイェール大学講師を務め、哲学者の鶴見俊輔や作家の大江健三郎らと結成した「九条の会」の呼びかけ人でもあった。
加藤は学生時代から文学に興味を持っており、中村真一郎や福永武彦と共に「マチネ・ポエティク」を結成。詩を発表し、「さくら横ちょう」が有名になった。その後、新定型詩運動にも参加した。
日本の敗戦直後に広島で原爆の被害を実際に見聞し、日米原子爆弾影響合同調査団の一員として被爆の実態調査に従事。1946年には最初の結婚をした。
1951年にフランス政府給費留学生となり、パリ大学で血液学研究を行いながら、日本の雑誌や新聞に文明批評や文芸評論を発表した。その後、帰国し「日本文化の雑種性」という評論を発表し、「雑種文化」なる著書を刊行。1958年に医業を廃し、以後評論家として独立した。
加藤はレジスタンス文学に関心を持つ一方で、ポール・ヴァレリーについて「その詩人の運命が地上の一帝国の運命よりも重大に思われた」と述べている。また、「世界大百科事典」の編纂にも携わり、その項目を執筆した。

Shuichi Kato (1919-2008) was a Japanese critic and novelist. He was a doctor of medicine and specialized in internal medicine and hematology. He served as a professor at Sophia University and a lecturer at Yale University, and was the promoter of the ``Kujo no Kai,'' which he formed with philosopher Shunsuke Tsurumi and writer Kenzaburo Oe.
Kato has been interested in literature since his student days, and formed Matinee Poetic with Shinichiro Nakamura and Takehiko Fukunaga. He published a poem and ``Sakura Yokocho'' became famous. Later, he also participated in the New Type Poetry Movement.
Immediately after Japan's defeat in the war, he first saw and heard the damage caused by the atomic bomb in Hiroshima, and was involved in investigating the actual situation of the atomic bomb damage as a member of the Japan-U.S. Joint Investigation Team on the Effects of the Atomic Bomb.
