本田宗一郎は日本の実業家であり、技術者のうちの一人です。輸送用機器メーカーである本田技研工業（ホンダ）の創業者でした。彼は経歴が長くさまざまな分野で活躍しました。
**出自と教育**
1906年11月17日、静岡県磐田郡光明村（現在の浜松市天竜区）に鍛冶屋を営む本田儀平と妻・みかの長男として生まれました。光明村立山東尋常小学校（現在の浜松市立光明小学校）の在校中に自動車を初めて目にし、飛行機も見てきました。
**経歴**
1919年二俣町立二俣尋常高等小学校に入学し、1922年に卒業。東京市本郷区湯島の自動車修理工場「アート商会」に入社しました。半年間は社長の子供の子守りばかりでした。
1924年に千葉県津田沼にあった伊藤音次郎の飛行学校へ入るが、知った父に猛反対され退校。カーチスのエンジンを払い下げてアメリカ製フレームを付けてレース用車両を作りました。
1928年にアート商会から独立し、アート商会浜松支店を設立しました。1935年磯部さちと結婚し、1937年自動車修理工場事業を拡大しました。
1942年に長男・博俊が誕生したが、その年に豊田自動織機が東海精機重工業に出資し、本田は専務に退いた。1945年三河地震により東海精機重工業浜松工場が倒壊し、所有していた株を豊田自動織機に売却しました。
**本田技研工業の創業**
1946年に10月に本田技術研究所（旧）を設立し、39歳で所長となりました。1948年二男・勝久誕生し、本田技研工業株式会社を浜松に設立しました。同社代表取締役になります。
**最後の仕事**
1973年に中華人民共和国を訪れた帰国直後の会見で、本田技研工業社長を退き、取締役最高顧問に就任しました。研究所所長は続けました。1981年勲一等瑞宝章を受賞し、1983年に取締役も退き、終身最高顧問になります。

**Origin and education**
Born on November 17, 1906, in Komei Village, Iwata District, Shizuoka Prefecture (currently Tenryu Ward, Hamamatsu City), he was the eldest son of Gihei Honda, a blacksmith owner, and his wife, Mika. While attending Komei Village Sanda Elementary School (currently Hamamatsu City Komei Elementary School), he first saw a car and also saw an airplane.
**Career**
In 1919, he entered Futamata Town Futamata Junior High School and graduated in 1922. I joined Art Shokai, an automobile repair shop in Yushima, Hongo-ku, Tokyo. For half a year, I was just babysitting the president's child.
In 1924, he entered Otojiro Ito's flight school in Tsudanuma, Chiba Prefecture, but his father, who found out about him, strongly opposed him and left the school. I took away the Curtiss engine and attached an American made frame to make a racing vehicle.
In 1928, we became independent from Art Shokai and established Art Shokai Hamamatsu Branch. In 1935, he married Sachi Isobe, and in 1937 he expanded his auto repair shop business.
In 1942, Honda's eldest son, Hirotoshi, was born, but in that year Toyota Industries invested in Tokai Seiki Heavy Industries, and Honda stepped down as managing director. In 1945, the Tokai Seiki Heavy Industries Hamamatsu Factory collapsed due to the Mikawa Earthquake, and the company sold its shares to Toyota Industries.
**Foundation of Honda Motor Co., Ltd.**
In October 1946, he established the Honda R&D Center (formerly known as Honda R&D) and became its director at the age of 39. In 1948, our second son, Katsuhisa, was born and Honda Motor Co., Ltd. was established in Hamamatsu. He will become the company's representative director.
**Last job**
At a press conference immediately after returning from a visit to the People's Republic of China in 1973, he stepped down as president of Honda Motor Co., Ltd. and became director and chief advisor. The Institute Director continued. In 1981, he was awarded the Order of the Sacred Treasure, first class, and in 1983, he retired as a director and became a lifelong top advisor.
