**「障害者を描く漫画家の新風」**
山本おさむは、日本の漫画家。血液型はA型。長崎県立大村工業高校卒業。妻（後に死別）は同業者の久木田律子。
来歴
母子家庭に育ち、1973年に高校卒業後に上京して、運送助手などをしながら漫画修業した。1976年から巴里夫のアシスタントを数年間つとめて、その他に尾瀬あきらのアシスタントもつとめながら、作品を幾多かの出版社に持ち込むが、すべて断られて、唯一『漫画アクション』（双葉社）のみ認められて、本名の山本 収名義で1980年にデビューした。
その後『ぼくたちの疾走』などの青春漫画路線から、『遥かなる甲子園』以降、『漫画アクション』の編集長に掛け合った末に聴覚障害者などを取り上げた作品を多く描くようになる。こうしたテーマへの取り組みの意図は、エッセイ『どんぐりの家のスケッチ - 漫画で障害者を描く』（1998年刊行）で読むことができる。
『遥かなる甲子園』では聾学校の野球部の子供たちを、『わが指のオーケストラ』では日本のろう教育の歴史を描き、障害児教育へ一石を投じたものとして反響を呼んだ。聾学校での重複障害の子供たちを描いた。
『どんぐりの家』は第24回（1995年度）日本漫画家協会賞優秀賞を受賞した。同作品は1997年に映画化され、社会的にも話題になった。映画化にあたり、自ら脚本の執筆、総監督を行った。第1回文化庁メディア芸術祭アニメーション部門優秀賞を受賞した。
夭折した非凡の棋士村山聖の人生を基にした『聖-天才・羽生が恐れた男』を描くことになったきっかけは、後に死別した妻の久木田が村山と同じ病気を患っていたことであり、間もなく久木田は連載中に亡くなった（後に福島県岩瀬郡天栄村出身の女性と再婚）。
ほかに日本共産党の機関紙『しんぶん赤旗 日曜版』でエッセイ漫画『今日もいい天気』を連載している（2008年 - 2009年パートI、2012年パートII、2017年パートIII）。福島県天栄村での作者の田舎暮らしをコミカルに描いたパートIが好評だったため、震災前の2010年にパートIIの連載が決まっていたが、その後の原発事故を受け、編集部は続編は無理ではないかと判断していた。作者自身の自主避難体験を描くことを決意していたことも連載の中で描かれている。パートIと対照的な連載になったが、パートIも含めたこの作品が、第42回 （2013年度）日本漫画家協会賞特別賞を受賞をした。

Osamu Yamamoto is a Japanese manga artist. Blood type is A. Graduated from Nagasaki Prefectural Omura Technical High School. His wife (later deceased) was Ritsuko Kukita, a fellow worker.
History
Raised in a single-parent household, he moved to Tokyo after graduating from high school in 1973 and trained as a manga artist while working as a transportation assistant. Starting in 1976, he worked as an assistant to Mario for several years, and also to Akira Oze, while taking his work to a number of publishers, but all of them were rejected, and only ``Manga Action'' (Futabasha) was accepted, and he made his debut in 1980 under his real name, Yamamoto Shu.
After that, he started drawing on youth manga such as ``Bokutachi no Sousou'', and after ``Harukanaru Koshien'', after negotiating with the editor-in-chief of ``Manga Action'', he began to draw many works that featured people with hearing disabilities. His intention to approach these themes can be read in his essay ``Acorn House Sketches - Drawing Disabled People in Manga'' (published in 1998).
``Haruka Naru Koshien'' depicts the children of a baseball team at a school for the deaf, and ``My Finger Orchestra'' depicts the history of education for the deaf in Japan, creating a sensation as a breakthrough in the education of children with disabilities. It depicts children with multiple disabilities at a school for the deaf.
``Acorn House'' won the 24th (1995) Japan Cartoonists Association Award for Excellence. The work was made into a movie in 1997 and became a social topic. When making the film into a movie, he wrote the script himself and served as the general director. It won the Excellence Award in the Animation Division at the 1st Japan Media Arts Festival.
The reason why he decided to write ``Sacred - The Man Who Hanyu Feared,'' which is based on the life of an extraordinary shogi player Sei Murayama who died young, was because his wife, Kukita, who later died, was suffering from the same disease as Murayama, and Kukita died shortly after the series was published (he later remarried a woman from Tenei Village, Iwase District, Fukushima Prefecture).
In addition, he has serialized the essay manga ``Today is good weather'' in the Japanese Communist Party's official newspaper ``Shinbun Akahata Sunday Edition'' (2008-2009 Part I, 2012 Part II, 2017 Part III). Part I, a comical depiction of the author's rural life in Tenei Village, Fukushima Prefecture, was well-received, and it was decided that Part II would be serialized in 2010, before the earthquake, but in the wake of the nuclear accident that followed, the editorial department decided that a sequel would be impossible. The series also depicts the author's determination to depict his own voluntary evacuation experience. Although it was serialized in contrast to Part I, this work, including Part I, won the 42nd (2013) Japan Cartoonists Association Special Award.
