Deling was a writer during the Republic of China. Born as the daughter of a French mother, Yugen, she grew up in Japan and France, where her father was stationed. Together with Yong Ling, he served under Empress Dowager Cixi and acted as an interpreter for the wives of foreign ministers. However, in 1905, due to her father's illness, she left the imperial court and moved to Shanghai, where she married Thaddeus White, the American vice-consul in Shanghai.
In the United States, he wrote memoirs and documentary literature in English, and published works depicting scenes of Empress Dowager Cixi and court life, as well as observations of the political situation at the end of the Qing Dynasty. In addition to participating in the China Defense Alliance during the Sino-Japanese War, he died in a traffic accident in California in 1944.
