Nobuo Shimotome is a Japanese political scientist specializing in comparative politics and Russian/CIS politics. Doctor of Laws (University of Tokyo, Ph.D., 1978). He is a professor emeritus at Hosei University and a special visiting professor at the Faculty of Law at Kanagawa University. He is known as the ``leading expert on the study of the former Soviet Union and Russia,'' and is also called the ``leading expert on Russian political research.''
Nobuo Shimotome was born in Sapporo, Hokkaido in 1948, graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Tokyo in 1971, and completed his doctoral program at the Graduate School of Law and Politics at the University of Tokyo in 1978. In the same year, he became a full-time lecturer at the Faculty of Law at Seikei University. From 1985 to 1988, he served as a professor at the Faculty of Law at Hosei University.
