小説家であり経済小説の新鋭である真山仁は、日本の経済に重大な影響を与えた有名な小説「ハゲタカ」シリーズや、「連鎖破綻 ダブルギアリング」という題目の小説でデビューした。
大阪府堺市出身。新金岡で育ち、当時（この当時の堺市長であった竹山修身と対談時の2016年）「堺で過ごした幼少期の頃の体験が強く影響」としている。
児童会の役員を務めていた小学6年生のとき、小学校の「夏休み中は午前11時まで外出するな」というルールがおかしい、と感じて担任教諭に直訴する。「既存のルールを変えたかった」が、級友からは「政治家になれ」と言われ、自身の「表からも裏からもニュートラルな立場でモノを見る強み」に気付く。
「世の中を変えるため」政治家へ進む道を考えるが、世の中を変えるまでの影響力を持つためには派閥を作り国会の過半数を取る必要があるため弁護士の道も考えたが、法廷で勝っても社会は変えにくい。そこで「たった一人の人間が社会に向けて『世の中がおかしい』と物申せる職業は何か」と考えた結果、小6で選んだ道が小説家だった。
小説家になるため、3日に1冊のペースで小説を読みあさり、桃山学院高等学校2年の夏休みに原稿用紙550枚の作品を江戸川乱歩賞に応募。大学受験を控えた高3も小説を書いてばかりいたが「社会に対する違和感を訴えるツールとして小説がある」信念を貫き、「ジャッカルの日のフレデリック・フォーサイスのような、日本にはなかったポリティカル・フィクションという具体的な目標もできた」。
同志社大学法学部政治学科卒業後、1987年中部読売新聞（現在の読売新聞中部支社）入社。岐阜支局記者として勤務し、1990年退職しフリーライターとなる。1995年1月17日の兵庫県南部地震（阪神・淡路大震災）で被災。震源に近い神戸市垂水区の7階建てマンションの1階に住んでおり、震災の早朝は徹夜で執筆を終え就寝の直後で、圧死を覚悟した。この時の気持ちを真山は「諦観がよぎるとともに、天井を冷静に凝視し、とても腹が立った」。「（小説家を目指して）必死で生きてきたのに、こんな災害で殺すのか、と」と述べている。この体験がライフワークとして震災を書く原点となり、東日本大震災後の被災地を舞台にした『雨に泣いてる』執筆につながった。
2003年生命保険会社の破綻危機を描いた『連鎖破綻 ダブルギアリング』で作家デビューした。当時のペンネーム「香住 究」（かずみ きわむ）は、大手生命保険会社で商品開発室課長を務めた人物との共同筆名で、後に刊行された文庫版では「真山仁・香住究の共著」という表記に変更された。翌年、単著としてハゲタカファンドを扱った小説、『ハゲタカ』を、「真山 仁」名義で出版し、経済小説の新鋭として注目される。

He considered becoming a politician ``to change the world,'' but in order to have enough influence to change the world, he would need to form a faction and win a majority in the Diet, so he considered becoming a lawyer, but even if he wins in court, it is difficult to change society. So I thought, ``What kind of career could allow just one person to tell society that the world is wrong?'' and as a result, the career path he chose in 6th grade was to become a novelist.
In order to become a novelist, he read one novel every three days, and during the summer vacation of his second year at Momoyama Gakuin High School, he submitted a work on 550 pages of manuscript paper to the Edogawa Ranpo Prize. Even in his third year of high school, when he was preparing to take university entrance exams, he had been writing novels, but he remained true to his belief that ``novels are a tool to appeal to society's discomfort,'' and ``I was able to create a concrete goal of writing political fiction, something that did not exist in Japan, like Frederick Forsyth in The Day of the Jackal.''
After graduating from Doshisha University Faculty of Law, Department of Political Science, joined Chubu Yomiuri Shimbun (currently Yomiuri Shimbun Chubu Branch) in 1987. Worked as a reporter at the Gifu bureau, retired in 1990 and became a freelance writer. Damaged by the Hyogo Prefecture Southern Earthquake (Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake) on January 17, 1995. He lives on the first floor of a seven-story apartment building in Tarumi Ward, Kobe City, near the epicenter of the earthquake, and in the early morning hours of the earthquake, he had just gone to bed after staying up all night writing, and was prepared to be crushed to death.
