**"Exploring infinite possibilities"**
Hiroshi Ooguri is a Japanese physicist whose specialty is elementary particle theory. He is known for his Doctor of Science (University of Tokyo, 1989) and serves as the Fred Kavli Endowed Professor at the California Institute of Technology and director of the Walter Burke Institute for Theoretical Physics. He is a distinguished professor at the University of Tokyo and chairman of the Aspen Institute for Physics.
Ooguri has discovered the deep mathematical structure of quantum field theory and string theory, and is developing new theoretical methods to apply these theories to fundamental problems in particle physics, astrophysics, and cosmology. In particular, he developed topological string theory and elucidated the quantum mechanical properties of black holes. He has also made fundamental contributions to two-dimensional conformal field theory and D-branes on Calabi-Yau manifolds.
