Shizu Sakai is a Japanese medical historian. Professor emeritus at Juntendo University, born in Shizuoka City, Shizuoka Prefecture. After graduating from Mie Prefectural University School of Medicine, he completed the doctoral course at the University of Tokyo Graduate School of Medicine and received the title of Doctor of Medicine.
Shizu Sakai was active as a professor of medical history at Juntendo University, later became a visiting professor, and in 2008 was made a specially appointed professor emeritus. He also served as director of the Japan Medical Education History Museum. He has been in charge of medical research for NHK Taiga dramas and the manga ``JIN'', and has written many books on Japanese medical history.
Shizu Sakai is the author of such books as Invitation to the History of Medicine (2000) and Japanese History Narrated by Disease (2002, Kodansha Academic Bunko 2008).
