Japanese archaeologist. Professor Emeritus of Waseda University's Faculty of Letters and Sciences. Specializes in Egyptology and archeology. Born in Tokyo. After graduating from Waseda University's Faculty of Letters in 1975, he studied abroad in Egypt as a student dispatched by the Ministry of Education, including from 1981 to 1983 while enrolled in a doctoral course.From 1986, he became an assistant at Waseda University's Faculty of Letters. Since then, he has held various positions including professor and director of Waseda University's Institute of Egyptology.
He continues to conduct excavations in the Valley of the Kings, and is also involved in creating a database for Necropolis Thebes.
His books include ``50 Stories of the Beginning of Things'' and ``Enjoying Hieroglyphs,'' and he is active in the Japanese archeology world.
