Risa Wataya is a Japanese novelist. Born in Shiga Prefecture. I grew up in Kyoto, where my father worked at a clothing company. My mother was an associate professor and English teacher at a junior college. I have a younger brother who is 3 years younger than me. During elementary school, he belonged to the drama club. At the age of 17, he was drawn to Osamu Dazai's works and decided that he wanted to become a novelist.
After that, he entered the Department of Japanese Language and Literature, Faculty of Education, Waseda University. However, he won the Akutagawa Ryunosuke Prize for ``Installation,'' which became a bestseller and sold over 700,000 copies. He was the youngest person to win this award in 20 years. The same work was also made into a movie.
