Ichiro Sunada was a Japanese political scientist known as an expert on American politics. Born in Hyogo Prefecture in 1947, he graduated from the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Political Science and Economics, Waseda University in 1960, worked for the Mainichi Shimbun, and then went to the United States on a Fulbright exchange program. After completing his master's degree at the University of California, Berkeley, he served as a professor at Tokai University and Gakushuin University from 1973 to 1995.
