English Summary
**"An educator who thought of ways to enjoy mathematics"**
Kei Toyama is a Japanese mathematician and professor emeritus at Tokyo Institute of Technology. It is well known in the field of mathematics education. Aiming to change the way mathematics is learned, he devised a new method called the ``water method.'' Its effectiveness was higher than that of the Ministry of Education's mathematics textbooks at the time.
As a mathematician, Kei Toyama aimed to help students actually enjoy mathematics, rather than focusing on ``theoretical mathematics'' that required proof. He discovered a mathematics teaching method called schema, which led to the creation of a method known as the ``water system''.
He has written many books about reforming mathematics education, such as ``What is the water system?'' and ``What is quantity?'' His representative works are ``The Life of Numbers - History of Numbers'', ``The Two-Dimensional World - Planar Geometry'', and ``The Three-Dimensional World - Solid Geometry''.
Q: What did you do?
Contributing to the reform of mathematics education and having an impact on the world.
Q: What are your famous works?
The "Waterworks Method" and "Quantity Theory" are famous. Kei Toyama aims to change the way mathematics is learned, thereby making it enjoyable for more students and teachers.
