東京都出身。東京学芸大学卒業後、美術教員として活動しながら人形劇や造形作品も発表していた。2003年に第13回紙わざ大賞展準大賞、2004年には第26回講談社絵本新人賞佳作を受賞。その後、2005年に『おもちのきもち』で第27回講談社絵本新人賞を受賞しデビューを果たす。代表作は三部作シリーズの『だるまさん』で累計500万部以上のベストセラーとなった。

Born in Tokyo. After graduating from Tokyo Gakugei University, he worked as an art teacher while also presenting puppet shows and modeling works. After that, he made his debut in 2005 by winning the 27th Kodansha Picture Book Newcomer Award for ``Omochi no Kimochi''. His most famous work is the trilogy series ``Daruma-san,'' which became a bestseller and sold over 5 million copies.
