水沢謙一
「日本古典文学を守り、普及させることにも貢献しました」
日本の昔話研究家。新潟県で生まれ、1929年に新潟師範学校を卒業後、新町小学校校長として引退し、その後長岡市文化財委員長や史編纂委員などを務めました。民間の昔話を収集して研究し、特に越後の昔話については数多くの作品を作りました。また、日本古典文学会正会員で、日本の民話に関する研究にも取り組んでいました。

"He also contributed to preserving and popularizing classical Japanese literature."
Japanese folk tale researcher. Born in Niigata Prefecture, he graduated from Niigata Normal School in 1929, retired as principal of Shinmachi Elementary School, and later served as chairman of the Nagaoka City Cultural Properties Committee and history compilation committee. He collected and researched folk tales, and created many works, especially about folk tales from Echigo. He was also a regular member of the Japan Society for Classical Literature and engaged in research on Japanese folklore.

I was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Fifth Class, for my contribution to the study of Japanese folk tales.
