Yuichi Kudo is a Japanese educator. He is the former principal of Yokohama Soei Junior and Senior High School. He has held public positions such as a member of the Education Rebuilding Implementation Council and a member of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry's "EdTech" Committee. He also served as the founder of the "Platform for Superintendents and Principals to Create the Future of Education and Learning," a volunteer group composed of Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology staff and others. Currently, in addition to public positions such as an expert member of the Cabinet Office's Regulatory Reform Promotion Council and a member of the Gunma Prefecture Non-Cognitive Education Expert Committee, he also serves as an education advisor for Tomeikan Junior and Senior High School.
Born in Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture, Kudo graduated from the Department of Applied Mathematics, Faculty of Science, Tokyo University of Science. From 1984, he worked as a junior high school mathematics teacher in Yamagata Prefecture for five years. Afterwards, he retook the Tokyo teacher employment exam and was assigned to a junior high school in Taito Ward in 1989. He then held positions including at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, the Meguro Ward Board of Education, and as the Director of the Education Guidance Division of the Shinjuku Ward Board of Education. In 2014, he became the principal of Chiyoda Ward Kojimachi Junior High School, where he championed "school reforms that promote student autonomy (self-initiative)." He undertook initiatives to re-examine traditional school practices, such as abolishing homework and regular tests, and reviewing the fixed homeroom teacher system. Kudo explained these measures as "to ensure learning opportunities that are tailored to the actual circumstances of the learners." These reforms garnered significant attention from educators and the media. In 2020, he became the principal of Yokohama Soei Junior and Senior High School, where he worked on student-centered school reform, moving away from traditional administrative school management.
