歴史学者。日本大学文理学部元教授。専門は日本中世史。
1952年北海道生まれ、1985年に学習院大学大学院人文科学研究科博士課程を修了。学習院大学文学部史学科助手や文部省初等中等教育局教科書調査官などの役職を経て、2008年から日本大学文理学部史学科教授となりましたが、2023年に日本大学を退任しました。
著書に「天皇と上皇の制」などがあります。

Born in Hokkaido in 1952, completed doctoral course at Gakushuin University Graduate School of Humanities in 1985. After serving as an assistant in the Department of History, Faculty of Letters, Gakushuin University, and as a Textbook Researcher, Elementary and Secondary Education Bureau, Ministry of Education, he became a professor in the Department of History, Faculty of Letters and Science, Nihon University in 2008, but retired from Nihon University in 2023.
His books include ``The Emperor and Retired Emperor System.''
