代表作は「もしもしおかあさん」、「てぶくろをかいに」など400冊以上の出版作品がある。国際的にも評価されており、1985年度から3年連続でボローニャ国際児童図書展エルバ賞を受賞。1991年には第17回サンリオ美術賞を受賞している。

Japanese picture book author and illustrator. Born in Shizen-cho, Miki City, Hyogo Prefecture. Using a technique of coloring torn pieces of washi paper, he depicts people, animals, and plants with gentle expressions.
He has published over 400 books, including his representative works ``Moshi Moshi Okaasan'' and ``Tebukuro wo Kaini.'' It has been internationally acclaimed, winning the Elba Prize at the Bologna International Children's Book Exhibition for three consecutive years since 1985. In 1991, he won the 17th Sanrio Art Award.
