Businessman. Founder of general discount store Don Quijote. Born in Ogaki City, Gifu Prefecture. After graduating from Keio University, he worked at a real estate company and made a living by gambling and mahjong. In 1978, he saved up 8 million yen in start-up capital and opened the Thief Market in Nishi-Ogikubo, Suginami Ward, Tokyo. The store became a success after opening late at night, and was incorporated in 1980. He started a wholesale business called ``Leader,'' but decided to re-enter the retail industry in 1993. By 2006, the number of Don Quijote stores had increased to over 1,000.
