Kazuo Ozaki (1899-1983) was a Japanese novelist and disciple of Naoya Shiga. He wrote this book while struggling to make ends meet, and won the Akutagawa Prize for his short story collection ``Nouki Megane.'' Afterwards, he deepened his observational eye for nature and living things, and received high acclaim for publishing a novel about his feelings that looked at the approaching death.
His representative works, such as ``Various Insects'' and ``A Beautiful View from the Cemetery,'' are known not only by the author but also as representative works of emotional novels. He is a member of the Japan Art Academy, a Person of Cultural Merit, and a recipient of the Order of Culture.
