著名な時代小説作家。代表作として、「髪結い伊三次捕物余話」シリーズや「雷桜」が有名です。
北海道出身で、OLや主婦を経験した後、1995年に『幻の声』でオール読物新人賞を受賞しデビュー。その後も様々な賞を受賞し、日本文学界に活躍しました。2010年には「雷桜」が映画化されました。
生涯を通して多くの作品を作り出し、時代小説の女王として愛されている宇江佐真理ですが、2015年に亡くなってしまいました。遺作となった朝日新聞夕刊の連載小説『うめ婆行状記』は、その後も読者に支持され続けています。
