Hitomi Kanehara has faced hardships from a young age, such as when she stopped attending school in 1993. He began writing novels while living in San Francisco in 1995, and was influenced by the works of Ryu Murakami and Eimi Yamada that he read there.
He made his debut as a writer in 2003, and won the 27th Subaru Literary Award in the same year. He won the Akutagawa Prize the following year and made his debut as a writer at the age of 20. Around this time, her activities became more active, including marrying the editor in charge of Shueisha.
In 2010, he was a finalist for the Yasunari Kawabata Literary Award for ``Summer Tabi'' and won the 27th Oda Sakunosuke Award for ``Trip Trap.'' In 2011, she moved from Tokyo to Okayama Prefecture, where her father's parents live, and gave birth to her second daughter, worried about radioactive contamination from the nuclear power plant accident following the Great East Japan Earthquake. Then moved to France.
