**激動の「昭和」に活躍した小説家**
小説家・劇作家。戦後の日本文学界を代表する作家で、ノーベル文学賞候補にも選ばれた。修辞に富んだ文体と唯美的な作風が特徴。また、政治的国粋主義的な傾向があり、晩年は民兵組織「楯の会」を結成し、1970年にクーデターを計った末に自衛隊市ヶ谷駐屯地で割腹自殺した。
小説では、『仮面の告白』『潮騒』『金閣寺』など。戯曲では、『近代能楽集』『鹿鳴館』『サド侯爵夫人』などがある。

Novelist and playwright. He is a representative writer of postwar Japanese literature and was nominated as a candidate for the Nobel Prize in Literature. Characterized by a rhetorical style and an aesthetic style. In addition, he had political nationalist tendencies, and in his later years he formed a paramilitary organization, ``Tate no Kai,'' and after plotting a coup d'état in 1970, he committed suicide by disemboweling himself at the Self-Defense Forces Ichigaya Garrison.
His novels include ``Masked Confession'', ``Sound of the Sea'', and ``Kinkakuji''. His plays include ``Modern Nohgakushu,'' ``Rokumeikan,'' and ``The Marquise de Sade.''
