Manga artist Koyoharu Gotoge is from Fukuoka Prefecture. His representative work is "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba." Works that he used as reference when drawing one-shot manga include 'Japanese Folktales', 'Fujiko F. Fujio SF Short Story Collection', 'Parasyte', and 'Hisatsu Shigotonin'. When asked how many works and pages he had drawn before posting his first work, he answered, "I think I drew a lot, but I'm not good at math, so I can't calculate them."
After "Okagari Kari" and "Monju Shiro Kyodai", "Rib-san" was entered into the 9th "Kin Mirai Cup". However, after that, there was a period when it was difficult to get a serialized manuscript accepted. Gotoge himself set out to create with the determination that "if I don't get a serialization in 2015, I'll quit being a manga artist," and wrote new serialized storyboards for "Hae niwa no Zigzag" followed by "Don Tsufusha." However, both works failed the serialization meeting and were rejected, leaving him in a desperate situation.
Therefore, editor Tatsuhiko Katayama proposed a "return to basics." Following this advice, Gotoge wrote the storyboard "Kishatsu no Nagare," which was based on "Okagari Kari." However, this work was also rejected at the serialization meeting.
However, once again, following the advice of Katayama's senior editor, he suggested that "like 'HUNTER x HUNTER', the protagonist should be an ordinary human, and the surrounding characters should be distinctive." Gotoge changed the boy he had already envisioned as a supporting character in "Kishatsu no Nagare" to the protagonist, and wrote a new storyboard for "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba."
