帚木蓬生は、日本の小説家、精神科医です。ペンネームの「帚木蓬生」は、『源氏物語』の第2帖「帚木（ははきぎ）」と第15帖「蓬生（よもぎう）」から取ったものです。
小郡市で生まれ、福岡県立明善高等学校卒業後、東京大学文学部仏文科を卒業し、九州大学医学部卒業。東京大学仏文科卒業後TBSに勤務し、2年後に退職して精神科医となります。
「白い夏の墓標」（1979年）で注目を集め、「三たびの海峡」(1992年) で第14回吉川英治文学新人賞を受賞しました。また医学に関わる作品が多くあります。精神科医の立場から「ギャンブル依存とたたかう」を上梓しています。
2008年には、「終診」（『風花病棟』に収録）を執筆後に急性骨髄性白血病になりましたが、半年間の入院生活を経て復帰しました。2019年に、小郡市ふるさと文化大使に任命され、2023年には開業医を引退し作家に専念することとなった。

Hōsō Hagigi is a Japanese novelist and psychiatrist. The pen name ``Hahaki Hōsei'' is taken from the second chapter ``Hahakigi'' and the 15th chapter ``Yomogiu'' in The Tale of Genji.
Born in Ogori City, graduated from Fukuoka Prefectural Meizen High School, graduated from the Department of French Literature, Faculty of Letters, University of Tokyo, and graduated from Kyushu University School of Medicine. After graduating from the Department of French Literature at the University of Tokyo, he worked at TBS and retired two years later to become a psychiatrist.
He attracted attention with ``White Summer Tombstone'' (1979), and won the 14th Eiji Yoshikawa Prize for New Writers for ``Mitabi no Kaikyo'' (1992). There are also many works related to medicine. I am publishing ``Fighting Gambling Addiction'' from my perspective as a psychiatrist.
In 2008, after writing ``Shukuken'' (included in ``Fuka Ward''), he developed acute myeloid leukemia, but recovered after being hospitalized for half a year. In 2019, he was appointed Ogori City's hometown cultural ambassador, and in 2023 he will retire from his practice and focus on writing.
