Born in Naka Ward, Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture. Graduated from Asano Junior and Senior High School and Waseda University's School of Social Sciences.
After working at Toshiba Tec and IBM Japan, he transitioned to a consulting career in 2003. He began writing in 2002, and his first book, "The Fall of the Takeda Clan," was released in 2007. He became a full-time writer in 2010.
Since 2023, he has appeared as a commentator on the BS11 historical program "Great People: Lessons from Defeat."
