柄谷行人は、1941年に兵庫県尼崎市に生まれた哲学者、文学者、文芸批評家。筆名は夏目漱石の小説『行人』から取られている。
論壇に登場したのは、『意識と自然ー漱石試論』（1969年）で、その後、「意味という病」（1975年）、「坂口安吾と中上健次」（1996年）、「トランスクリティーク　カントとマルクス」（2001年）などの著書を発表している。
近年は、アジア人として初めてバーグルエン賞を受賞している。

Yukito Karatani is a philosopher, literary scholar, and literary critic who was born in Amagasaki City, Hyogo Prefecture in 1941. His pen name was taken from Natsume Soseki's novel ``Gyoto.''
His first appearance on the debate stage was ``Consciousness and Nature: Essays on Soseki'' (1969), and he went on to publish such books as ``The Disease of Meaning'' (1975), ``Ango Sakaguchi and Kenji Nakagami'' (1996), and ``Transcritique: Kant and Marx'' (2001).
Recently, he became the first Asian to win the Berggruen Prize.
