川端康成（1899年～1972年）は、日本の小説家・文芸評論家。日本芸術院会員、文化功労者、文化勲章受章者。代表作は『伊豆の踊子』や『雪国』など。
川端は新人発掘の名人としても知られ、ハンセン病の青年・北條民雄の作品を世に送り出し、その鋭い審美眼で数々の茶器や陶器、仏像や埴輪などの古美術品の蒐集家でもあった。

**A writer who brought a new breeze to Japanese literature**
Yasunari Kawabata (1899-1972) was a Japanese novelist and literary critic. Member of the Japan Art Academy, Person of Cultural Merit, and recipient of the Order of Culture. Representative works include ``Izu no Odoriko'' and ``Snow Country.''
Kawabata was also known as a master at discovering new people, bringing to the world the works of Tamio Hojo, a young man with Hansen's disease, and with his keen sense of aesthetics, he was also a collector of numerous antiques such as tea utensils, pottery, Buddhist statues, and clay clay figures.
