洋画家、東京芸術大学教授の山口薫は、群馬県出身。1925年から1933年までフランス留学を経験し、その影響を受けて自然主義的画風に変化する。また、1934年に新時代洋画展を立ち上げ、新浪漫派や実験室などのグループの結成にも参加した。その後も自由美術家協会を設立し、日本国内賞を受賞。東京芸術大学助教授となり、その後は教授に昇任し、生涯を通して多くの作品を作成し、日本の現代美術の発展に貢献した。

**Kaoru Yamaguchi, a painter with a passion for nature**
Kaoru Yamaguchi, a Western painter and professor at Tokyo University of the Arts, is from Gunma Prefecture. He studied abroad in France from 1925 to 1933, and under the influence of this, his style of painting changed to naturalism. He also founded the New Era Western Painting Exhibition in 1934 and participated in the formation of groups such as New Romantic School and Laboratory. Afterwards, he founded the Free Artists Association and won a Japanese national award.
