「女性の権利を拓いた歌人・作家」
与謝野晶子は日本の歌人、作家、思想家である。1887年に堺市で生まれた。母親は家業が没落しながら育ったため、実の兄に影響を受け古典を読むことに惹かれていた。16歳の時には短歌を投稿した。20歳ごろからは和菓子屋を手伝いつつと短歌を投稿するようになった。浪華青年文学会に参加し、1900年に新詩社の機関誌『明星』に短歌を発表。その後、同人であった与謝野鉄幹と不倫関係になり、後に結婚した。その作品は女性の官能をおおらかに表現したものだった。晶子はロマン主義文学の中心人物となり、『君死にたまふことなかれ』や『山の動く日きたる』などの詩を発表している。
1912年にパリに行った晶子は、同年5月5日に「新しい女」の連載で取り上げられ、翌6日に晶子の出発の様子が報じられた。晶子は敦賀港からロシアのウラジオストクへ渡り、そこからシベリア鉄道に乗ってモスクワ経由でパリへ旅立った。その際には「いざ、天の日は我がために金の車をきしらせよ」という詩を作っている。晶子はパリでは、女性教育や男女平等について論じた。
帰国後、鉄幹との共著『巴里より』で、「（上略）要求すべき正当な第一の権利は教育の自由である。」と女性教育の必要性を説いた。また、1921年に建築家の西村伊作や画家の石井柏亭などとともに文化学院を創設し、男女平等教育を唱え、日本で最初の男女共学を成立させた。
晶子は多忙な人生を送りながらも、即興短歌の会を開いたりすることがあった。彼女は5万首以上もの短歌を作っている。彼女の功績には『新新源氏』の現代語訳や女性解放思想家としての影響がある。
1940年に鉄幹の法要に出席し、帰ってきたときに脳出血で右半身不随になり、その後1942年1月4日に意識不明になり、同年5月29日に狭心症と尿毒症を併発して死去。享年65歳（満63歳没）である。

Akiko Yosano is a Japanese poet, writer, and thinker. Born in Sakai City in 1887. Because her mother grew up in the midst of a decline in the family business, she was drawn to reading classics under the influence of her older brother. When he was 16 years old, he posted tanka. From around the age of 20, he started posting tanka while helping out at a Japanese sweets shop. He participated in the Naniwa Youth Literary Society and in 1900 published tanka in Shinshisha's magazine ``Myojo''. After that, she had an affair with Tekkan Yosano, who was a doujinshi, and they later married. The work was a generous expression of female sensuality. Akiko became a central figure in Romantic literature, publishing poems such as ``You Will Never Die'' and ``The Day the Mountain Moves Comes.''
Akiko, who went to Paris in 1912, was featured in the ``New Woman'' serialization on May 5th of the same year, and her departure was reported on the following day, the 6th. Akiko crossed from Tsuruga Port to Vladivostok, Russia, and from there took the Trans-Siberian Railway to Paris via Moscow. At that time, he composed a poem, ``Now, on the day of heaven, let the golden chariot squeak for me.'' In Paris, Akiko discussed women's education and gender equality.
After returning to Japan, she co-authored ``From Paris'' with Tekkan and explained the necessity of women's education, saying, ``The first legitimate right that we should demand is the freedom of education.'' In 1921, he founded Bunka Gakuin with architect Isaku Nishimura and painter Hakutei Ishii, advocating equal education for men and women, and establishing Japan's first coeducational school.
Even though Akiko led a busy life, she sometimes held impromptu tanka performances. She has written over 50,000 tanka poems. Her achievements include translating ``Shin-Shin-Genji'' into modern language and influencing her as a thinker of women's liberation.
In 1940, he attended a memorial service for Tekkan, and when he returned, he suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and became paralyzed on the right side of his body.He then became unconscious on January 4, 1942, and died from complications of angina pectoris and uremia on May 29 of the same year. He was 65 years old (died at the age of 63).
