He served two terms as a member of the House of Representatives for the Komeito party from the entire Kochi Prefecture constituency, and also two terms as a member of the House of Councillors. Subsequently, he served as a member of the Central Control Committee and the Accounting Audit Committee. He passed away on March 8, 1996, and the following day he was posthumously awarded the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun.
