日本の科学史家、東京大学総合文化研究科教授。東京都生まれで、1980年に東大教養学部教養学科科学史・科学哲学分科卒業。その後、ジョンズ・ホプキンス大学博士課程を修了し、1991年に博士号を取得。その後は東大の教員として活躍する傍ら、多くの著書や翻訳を手掛けている。

Japanese science historian and professor at the University of Tokyo's Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. Born in Tokyo, graduated from the Department of History and Philosophy of Science, Faculty of Liberal Arts, University of Tokyo, in 1980.
