After graduating from Waseda University's Department of Japanese Literature and completing his doctoral course credits, he served as an assistant professor at the Faculty of Liberal Arts at Tokushima University, an assistant professor at the National Institute of Japanese Literature, and a professor at the Rikkyo University Faculty of Letters, before retiring in 2013.
