Kuniharu Saito, known as a Japanese astronomer and astronomical historian, was born in Tokyo in 1913. In 1936, he graduated from the Department of Astronomy, Faculty of Science, Tokyo Imperial University, and in 1958, he received a doctorate in science for ``On the Solar Corona.''
He served as a professor at the Tokyo Astronomical Observatory, University of Tokyo, and after retiring in 1975, he founded the Department of Paleoastronomy and devoted himself to research. His efforts bore fruit in the form of more than 10 books, including ``Old Records of the Stars'' (Iwanami Shinsho).
