将棋　棋士、九段。2012年に引退した。名人戦A級通算4期の実績がある。その他、竜王戦1組通算1期で優勝している。
順位戦のB級からA級へ昇級し、その頃のA級には師匠の板谷進がいた。東京を離れて千葉県に転居した。1990年から挑戦者決定三番勝負へ進出するも、谷川浩司と敗れた。
順位戦で好調だったため、1991年にA級に復帰した。しかし、その年の後半には降級となった。その後の竜王戦では2組で準優勝し、本戦トーナメントに出場している。
46歳の時、将棋センターを購入した。2006年からフリークラスとなり、2012年に引退となるまでの活動をした。
対局中、昼休みや相手が席を外している間に自分の席に座って局面を考える癖があった。そのため、相手は「戻るのに戻れない」というような状態になることもあり、盤外戦術と見なされることもあった。相居飛車では矢倉、角換わりを多く指した。
1997年から1999年の間には、日本将棋連盟理事として活動した。普及面で活躍し、柏の将棋センターの師範も務めた。その他の方面では、中日ドラゴンズのファンであることや、家庭菜園が趣味だった。
