太宰治は日本の小説家。1948年没。左翼活動や自殺未遂もあったその人生に、作品を次々と発表した。「走れメロス」、「津軽」、「人間失格」など多くの代表作がある。
彼は青森県金木村（現在の五所川原市）出身。弘前高等学校（現：弘前大学）在学中から左翼活動を始めたが、3年ほどで挫折する。しかし、第二次世界大戦前の作品から戦後の新派作家として活躍した。「斜陽」はベストセラーとなる。
