Toshio Yoshida (May 7, 1909 - December 2006) was a Japanese naval officer and writer. His final rank was Naval Lieutenant Commander. He was born in Sasebo City, Nagasaki Prefecture.
Brief Biography
He entered the Naval Academy from the former Fukuoka Junior High School (now Fukuoka Prefectural Fukuoka High School). Due to illness, he repeated a year and graduated 41st out of 123 students in November 1931 (59th class).
He was commissioned as an ensign in April 1933, promoted to lieutenant in November of the following year, and became a selected student at the Naval War College in April 1937. During this period, he was promoted to lieutenant. After serving as an attached officer to the 28th Destroyer Division and as a division officer on the heavy cruiser "Myoko," he was assigned to the Naval General Staff (3rd Department, 8th Section) and served as an attendant for the Japan-Netherlands talks. Upon returning to Japan, he was again assigned to the Naval General Staff and belonged to the Provisional War History Department. During World War II, he primarily worked in the 3rd Department, 8th Section of the Naval General Staff. He was promoted to lieutenant commander in November 1942. In February 1944, while still working at the Naval General Staff, he became an aide to Fleet Admiral Osami Nagano, and also served as an aide to Mitsumasa Yonai and Shigetaro Shimada. He was promoted to commander in September 1945. He was assigned to the Ministry of the Navy and placed on the reserve list in November of the same year.
After the war, following a purge from public office, he worked as an administrative officer for the Defense Agency and Komatsu Ltd., while also writing numerous works about the former Imperial Japanese Navy. He continued his writing activities until his later years and passed away in 2006 at the age of 97.
