Shinmin Sakamura (1909-2006) was a Japanese Buddhist poet, often referred to as the "Poet of Healing." As one of the leading figures in Japanese Buddhist poetry, he created numerous works. His poems are easy to understand and beloved by people of all ages.
Shinmin Sakamura was born in Kumamoto Prefecture. After graduating from Jingu Kogakkan, he went to Korea as a teacher but returned to Japan in 1945. In 1946, he became a teacher at the private Daini Yamashita Girls' High School in Ehime Prefecture, and in 1950, he launched his personal magazine "Persona" and began writing poetry.
From 1962, he founded the monthly poetry magazines "Shikoku" and "Nenzureba Hana Hiraku," in which he penned his own poems. After retiring from Nitta High School in 1974, he dedicated himself entirely to poetry.
He received many awards, including the Ehime Shimbun Award (Culture Division), the Shoriki Matsutaro Award, and the Buddhist Propagation Culture Award.
His published works include "Selected Poems of Shinmin Sakamura," "Complete Poetic Works of Shinmin Sakamura" (6 volumes), "Hoo," "Shikoku Volume 1," "Shikoku Volume 2," "Nenzureba Hana Hiraku," and "Because There's No Second Chance in Life."
