アルパインクライマー・山野井泰史。身長165cm、体重58kgで、「山をやめろと言った父に強く反発し」日本登攀クラブに入会してフリークライミングに傾倒した。渡米の後、平山ユージとのコラボレーションで名高いルートに挑戦。「念願だったコズミックデブリを成功させたが、自分が苦闘してやっと登ったその壁を平山が軽々と完登したことにショックも受ける」と自伝『山の神』に綴っている。
1986年、ヨセミテのコズミックデブリ（グレード：5.13a）、1987年にはスフィンクス・クラック(5.13b)を単独で完登した。北極圏のバフィン島にあるトール山の西壁を7日間で単独初登攀するなどの業績で知られる。
ピオレドール生涯功労賞を受賞し、2021年現在も精力的に活動している。「登山時に酸素ボンベを使用したことは一度も無い」とのこと。

"Life is an adventure"
Alpine climber Yasushi Yamanoi. Standing 165cm tall and weighing 58kg, he joined the Japan Mountaineering Club and turned to free climbing "in strong opposition to his father who told him to quit mountaineering." After moving to the United States, he attempted the famous route in collaboration with Yuji Hirayama. ``Although I succeeded in removing cosmic debris, which was my long-awaited goal, I was shocked to see that Hirayama easily climbed the wall that I had struggled to climb,'' he wrote in his autobiography, ``Yama no Kami.''
He solo-climbed Yosemite's Cosmic Debris (grade: 5.13a) in 1986 and Sphinx Crack (grade: 5.13b) in 1987. He is known for his accomplishments, including the first solo ascent of the west face of Mount Thor on Baffin Island in the Arctic Circle in seven days.
He received the Piolet d'Or Lifetime Achievement Award and is still actively working as of 2021. ``I have never used an oxygen cylinder when climbing,'' he said.
