**Researcher of early modern and modern Japanese history, Director of Yokohama Port Opening Museum**
Takeomi Nishikawa, a scholar of Japanese history, was born in Aichi Prefecture in 1955. In 1979, he completed the master's program at Meiji University's Graduate School of Letters, Department of History, and in 1997 received his Ph.D. in History from ``Raw Silk Trade and Yokohama Merchants: The Establishment of the Raw Silk Sales System.'' Currently, he is the director of the Yokohama Port Opening Museum. He is also active as a part-time lecturer at Kanagawa University.
His books include Edo Bay Port and Distribution, the international market at the end of the Edo period and Meiji period, the Japanese raw silk trade and Yokohama, and the opening of Markful Port and the modernization of transportation. He has also published works such as Uraga Magistrate's Office, Perry's Arrival, 412 Days That Twisted Japan and the Ryukyus, and Meiji Hatamoto's Poverty at the End of the Edo Period.
