Chika Umino is active as a female manga artist. Born in Adachi Ward, Tokyo, he lived in Katsushika Ward during his childhood. After graduating from the design department at Tokyo Metropolitan Polytechnic High School, he was in charge of designing character goods at Sanrio and also worked in doujinshi. He made his debut as a professional manga artist with ``Honey and Clover'' in 2000, and since then has produced numerous works including his signature anime, live-action film, and TV drama. In addition, his success continues, with ``March Comes in Like a Lion'' winning the 35th Kodansha Manga Award in the general category.
