歴史学者。国際日本文化研究センター教授。博士（史学）。岡山県出身。備前岡山藩の支藩である備中鴨方藩重臣の家系に生まれた磯田は、古文書や史跡への興味が強く、高校時代から京都府立大学文学部史学科で研究を始める。当時の京都府立大学文学部には大学院がなかったため、大学の講義を受講しながら受験勉強し、慶應義塾大学に進学。博士課程修了後は茨城大学や国際日本文化研究センターなどで活躍している。
NHK番組「ブラタモリ」に登場する磯田は子供の頃から歴史に関心があり、小学生の時には街道沿いの石仏を拓本として回って発表し、同級生から「オジン」と呼ばれるようになったとの事。磯田は速水学派の最も若い世代に属するという。また、著書の中で磯田は速水融の研究手法について評している。

**Introduction**
Historian. Professor at the International Research Center for Japanese Studies. Ph.D. (History). Born in Okayama Prefecture. Born into a family of senior retainers of the Bicchu Kamogata domain, a branch domain of the Bizen Okayama domain, Isoda had a strong interest in ancient documents and historical sites, and began research at the Department of History, Faculty of Letters, Kyoto Prefectural University in high school. At the time, Kyoto Prefectural University's Faculty of Letters did not have a graduate school, so he studied for entrance exams while attending university lectures and entered Keio University. After completing his doctoral course, he has been active at Ibaraki University and the International Research Center for Japanese Studies.
Isoda, who appears on the NHK program ``Buratamori,'' has been interested in history since he was a child, and when he was in elementary school, he went around making rubbings of stone Buddha statues along the highway and presented them, and his classmates came to call him ``Ojin.'' Isoda is said to belong to the youngest generation of the Hayami school. In his book, Isoda also comments on Toru Hayami's research methods.
