Shigehiko Toyama is a Japanese English literature scholar, linguist, critic, and essayist. Doctor of Literature. Professor emeritus at Ochanomizu University. Former president of the All Japan Home Education Research Association.
After graduating from the Department of English Literature at Tokyo Bunri University, he not only specialized in English literature, but also extensively researched linguistics, rhetoric, and pedagogy. Starting with Rhetorical Afterimage (1961), he continued to come up with new theories on Japanese logic and reader theory.
