In 1970, he joined Toei Television Productions as an assistant director and made his debut as a scriptwriter with "Special Mobile Investigation Team." He also actively contributed as both an assistant director and screenwriter for "Tokusou Saizensen." Fujii devised the opening narration for the latter.
At the invitation of Toei producer Takeyuki Suzuki, he began writing for tokusatsu works starting with "Choudenshi Bioman." Although he was initially offered a directorial role, he declined, citing a lack of confidence in directing tokusatsu productions.
He primarily worked as a sub-writer, often penning side stories, and in the Super Sentai series, he collaborated with directors Takao Nagaishi and Shohei Tojo to produce numerous acclaimed works. For "Choujinki Metalder," he took over the final two episodes from main writer Susumu Takaku, performing a role close to that of a main writer, but his last participation in a tokusatsu work was "Moero!! Robocon."
His television scriptwriting work largely ceased after the "Abarenbo Shogun" special aired in December 2008, and in recent years, his main activity has been as a historical novelist. He has become quite popular, publishing around 8-10 full-length original novels annually and maintaining a busy schedule with series characters for various publishers.
