After writing science fiction short stories and rakugo scripts, he made his debut as a writer in 1992 when he won the 4th Japan Fantasy Novel Award for Excellence for ``Where Mars Was Once upon a Time.'' In the same year, his rakugo script ``Tendoshin'' won the Grand Prize at the 1st Katsura Suzakuzaburo New Rakugo .
