宇多喜代子 / Kiyoko Uta

日本の俳人で、現代俳句協会特別顧問、日本芸術院会員、文化功労者。俳句界の重鎮として活躍し、「草苑」の編集長や「船団」の参加など多くの役職を歴任した。
俳人としては、「獅林」で骨法を学び、「草苑」では新興俳句の伸びやかさに育まれた。代表句には「天皇の白髪にこそ夏の月」と「いつしかに余り苗にも耳や舌」がある。

A Japanese haiku poet, special advisor to the Contemporary Haiku Association, member of the Japan Art Academy, and Person of Cultural Merit. He was active as a leading figure in the haiku world and held many positions, including editor-in-chief of ``Soen'' and a member of ``Funedan.''
As a haiku poet, he studied bone techniques at Shirin, and was nurtured by the openness of emerging haiku at Soen. Typical poems include ``The moon of summer is in the emperor's gray hair'' and ``Before you know it, there are ears and tongues in the seedlings.''
He has written many books, including the haiku collection ``Elephant'' and the critique/essay ``Tsubakuro no Hibi.'' In addition, ``Walking with Haiku'' describes the history of haiku and modern haiku.
