Kenichi Shinoda is a Japanese molecular anthropologist and Doctor of Medicine. He has served as the director of the National Museum of Nature and Science. He has also explained molecular anthropology, which many people can learn about, on programs for the Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK). His books include "Ancestors Who Became Japanese" and "The Bones of Edo Speak," and he is known as a leading authority in molecular anthropology.
After graduating from Kyoto University's Faculty of Science in 1979, Kenichi Shinoda conducted research at the University of Occupational and Environmental Health and Saga Medical University. From 1994, he became a lecturer at Saga Medical University, and in 2003, he was appointed Director of the First Laboratory of Anthropology at the National Museum of Nature and Science. He also served as President of the Japanese Society of Physical Anthropology in 2007.
Kenichi Shinoda analyzed the mitochondrial DNA of South American mummies and researched the social structure of indigenous Andean peoples. He has also analyzed mitochondrial DNA haplogroups from Jomon human remains in Japan and ancient human remains from neighboring countries, investigating the process by which modern humans spread across the globe.
